Her Cast

We went to Orthopedics on Monday.  Aubree did really well, she kind of freaked when we had to do more x-rays because the last experience was very traumatic.  But she was all smiles and giggles for the doctor and nurse.  The doctor came in for about 5 minuets!  And the first thing she said "Was she on a tramp?"  Apparently Aubree caught a big bounce from an older girl (only 5) and she was too small to handle it.  Her knee hyperextended (which Dave was saying from the beginning that he thought it was what happened..) and since her body wasn't strong enough to handle it, her bone fractured.  It was nice knowing what happened.  I am going to be very strict on tramps now, but won't exclude them from their childhood.  Maybe just 2 kids at a time, of the same size...anyway..looking a her x-ray's the doctor said it would heal up nice and quick and there were no concerns.  It actually didn't fracture through the growth plate, but, really close.  Which is a good thing.  It helps it heal faster :) Yay!  So total she will be in a cast for 5 weeks.  1 in her splint, and 4 more in her new cast. It is set to come off November 7.  Here it is:

PINK!! They didn't have to cast her foot, so she can walk (YAY, YAY, YAY) but it does go up her thigh.  They put a slight bend in the cast to help her out.  She can sit with out having her leg shoot straight forward. But it's not a full bend so she can walk as un-awkwardly as possible.
I tried to get a cute picture of her, but I got A LOT of these:

Then I captured this, thank goodness...
She's been having fun being able to sit up to the counter, and get off the dreaded couch.
When the cast comes off there is a SLIGHT chance she could develop a "knob knee".  It's a risk with breaking so close to the growth plate and will show around 6 months later, if it happens.  There is nothing we can do to prevent it from happening, but she said not to worry because it is so SLIGHT.  We just have to be on the look out in case it happens, because we would have to bring her back in...here's hoping we're in the majority...

Sophie had fun, also, dressing up in a plastic bag.

  1. What is a knob knee? Her cast looks so cute! And, I'm glad she can move around better. Corey is so against trampolines. He fractured a vertebrae in his neck when he was younger. He even gets upset when I've jumped on them since we've been married. I understand his concern, but I'm more like you. Maybe, it's because nothing ever happened to me jumping on yours and the Jackmans'.

Soph is so funny! She makes me laugh. And, I love all the silly faces Aubs did as you took pictures of her.
